From the stomping grounds of Gothenburg, Sweden but with an Icelandic passport, Cynthia Stern got his first set of decks in 1993, and at just 16yo he was one of the first, and youngest, jungle DJs in Sweden. Along with the Leaf, his partner in crime at that time, he’d started to make a name for himself. Moving to Stockholm in 1997 he joined the Urban Electro Squad, but by this time Håkan Momenth had already set the grounds for his love of hard experimental techno and acid music.
In 1999 the idea of starting a label took root and not long after Input – Output Inc was born. The first release coming from Cynthia and Tobias Von Hofsten. Throughout the years the label released artists including Neil Landstrumm, Tobias Schmidt, Jason Leach, Bill Youngman, SueMe (R.I.P), TSR and Joseph Garber amongst others.
After years of touring and various personal matters, Cynthia stopped making techno, instead turning to new wave and minimal synth music playing in bands Colouroid, Video Look and Revigorators during this time. He also set up the label FlexiWave with Ella Moe which resulted in 21 releases.
Skipping to 2014, a move to Berlin took the turn for the better and Cynthia got hooked up with the Killekill crew, the people from Suicide Circus, and soon enough the label and club night Varvet was a fact. Cynthia also acquired studio space together with Headless Horseman, TCMF and Steffen Dieroff from Native Instruments. This resulted in many new collaborations such as Disabled (with Tobias Schmidt) and Facket Strejkar (with his one true love BodyKarin), and other renowned projects with artists including The Horrorist and with Dave Tarrida and Jason Leach to release an EP on Subhead Extras.
With DJ Flush from Killekill, Cynthia started the Metabanana Airforce vinyl distribution company in 2017. However, due to a multitude of other commitments, DJ Flush unfortunately decided to withdraw from the company which is now ran by Cynthia and BodyKarin. Metabanana Airforce distribute amazing labels such as Varvet, Killekill, Temple Traxx, Discos Atonicos and our very own RIOT Radio Records to name just a few.
