Since 1994 Neil Landstrumm has been one of the worlds most influential pioneering electronic maestros. He kick started his career in his hometown of Edinburgh at the city’s legendary Sativa club alongside Dave Tarrida, Steve Glencross and Tobias Schmidt. It was here he developed his unique live performances and DJing skills.
Taking influence from early acid house and the UKs bleep movement in the early 90’s, Neil has crafted a variety of techno styles including true minimalism, wonky and the distinctive “Landstrumm sound”. This new Landstrumm sound sent shock waves through the electronic dance community, immediately making its permanent mark in techno history whilst inspiring so many other artists.
Neil has a myriad of releases on many labels including, Tresor, Peacefrog and Planet Mu records including an impressive 10 LPs in there. Collaborations with Optimo’s JD Twitch as Doubleheart and side projects with The Horrorist, Cristian Vogel, Si Begg, Bill Youngman and Tobias Schmidt together as Sugar Experiment Station have also been created. Alongside running his own imprint Scandinavia Records he’s worked in motion graphics for MTV & Rockstar Games, television Ids and a print-based clothes label. You never really know what to expect next from him.
Essentially a live hardware based artist since the beginning of his career, he’s toured internationally for the last 20 years with regular gigs all over the world with his reputation built on his uncompromising live performances.
Neil lived in New York for a number of years but is now based back in Edinburgh working from his own Witness Rooms studio. A true pioneer and innovator of new electronic styles with a strong signature techno sound that’s often copied and imitated, he has always been, and continues to be a unique electronic artist.
