Ronnie –
Cheers muchly for the triple pack, it was given first listen by the most serious music critic in the house, my son Arran, he does like the Horrorist track very VERY much, then Durkit, closely followed by Cannibal Cooking Club, as those were the ones he clapped and smiled lots at, the rest he was busy shouting “bat bat bat bat” loudly over with delight. Thats a thumbs up from each of us, keep em coming! Ronnie smile emoticon:-) PS THANKS FOR THE RIOT STICKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kenny Campbell –
Right. I thought about giving this a track by track review, but it’s more than covered above.
If you’re reading this so I’ll tell you that you MUST buy this release then you’re probably on the wrong page looking for some other form of bland techno.
It’s true you MUST buy this, you simply MUST. But it shouldn’t take me, or anyone else to tell you. Just look at the names involved. Everyone is fully deserving of being there, and they have all delivered. And then some!
From The Horrorist to Landstrumm. Dez Williams to Lado. Even RIOT’s own Nomad. Every single track a banger.
Do not miss this, you will regret it
RONNIE GRAFTER –
A plethora of tidy Techno contained in a triple LP to suit the varying styles of the Techno connoisseur and a must have in the collection as with all RIOT releases; that’s some achievement considering it’s only RIOT’s 5th release. This LP is perfect for DJ’s at the top of their game and those aspiring; bringing exceptional and different sounds together making them work cohesively with eclectic quality Techno. The release is what I’d describe as an instrument to add to others in a vinyl collection, it is mine. I’ve purchased two copies so valuable a tool I consider all tracks. Grab your copy pronto as only 300 are available, correction, make that 298, 297,296,295……
A1. The Horrorist – RIOT. Kicking off with RIOT.
Imposing, unsettling and foreboding; adjectives right up my street when considering such fierce dark Techno. The Horrorist’s getting the shinizzle off his chest with wilful ramblings affirmed with pounding beats for his his army to recognise his intent and forceful direction. Techno as it should be, non compliant with fierce attitude, anarchic and RIOTOUS!
A2. Birken – Farceur Courtier.
Incoming like a nutty professor, instantly recognisable, the undeniable sound of Paul Birken. Impossible not to convulse a body part or two to, I challenge you to sit rigid through listening to this one, it’s nigh on impossible. To listen to, it’s much like one’s up close and personal experiencing his talent; being pressed on vinyl is a privilege and joy to use in a set.
B1. Neil Landstrumm – Dr. Foot Juice. Dr Foot Juice indeed he is.
I foresee bass faces, extended index fingers on point to the beat, attitude and smiley faces in motion to this one. Let’s go let’s go!
B2. Cannibal Cooking Club – Romulan Ale.
A consistent pounder setting one up right royally to take the pace up a notch ever so slightly and hard style if that’s your thing; it is mine and that’s exactly how I’d use this worthy tool in a set.
C1. Nomad- The Sultans Shoe Shop.
Nomad, the puppet’s master and curator for RIOT,s ensemble of releases. Prepare for transportation in Captain Kirk’s Starship Enterprise where you’ll arrive at the Arabian desert resulting in your arse kicked with the mentioned Sultan’s shoe to realms out of this world, a cosmos within a cosmos.
C2. Durkit – Naz.
From the get go who’d have known it would be so gloriously weighty, resulting in a good old stomping with the odd interjection of fist pump.
D1. Des Williams – Vundubra.
Des has quite a catalogue, this recent addition is consistently solid and a mover throughout.
D2. Martin Hare – Diffusion.
Another alumni member from the Techno science scholarship; a must to listen to and experience, LOUD, it’s like being immersed in the hardware used to create its sound ending with a yearning for more.
E1. Cymbol – Transient.
Without a shadow of a doubt, one of my favourites on this release, a beautiful composition which takes you places whether intended or not, progressively transcending glorious platforms of heaviness.
E2. Binny – Crackers.
And it’s straight in there, no messing with Crackers; no fluffy intro required, Binny taking it up a notch within a minute which suits me fine and should you if you’re with me when it comes to getting straight to the point at times and are impatient when perusing new purchases, fast forwarding to parts of interest when considering a mix, this is for you; it’s all interesting from start to finish.
F1. Morphamish – Get.
Surprising twists and turns with this, just as one settles into a pattern you’re taken to another; it’s like a mix of many within one and a set up for an interesting set methinks if you so wish; it’s in your hands but, Morphamish is rather addictive.
F2. LADO – The Empy Seven.
The sign off; industrial brutality awaits loaded with a percussion of beats and bass.
In a nutshell, av a word with yourself and get equipped with this TRIPLE LP loaded with a heavy arsenal to unleash either selfishly or to the masses. I intend to use it selfishly at times but will certainly look forward to sharing this beauty when playing out!
